A Festival of Hope at Keystone Church

Are you ready to do some holiday shopping? No? Well, here's something close to home and a fun way to get you in the mood: Keystone Church (5019 Keystone Place N.) is holding its 33rd annual Festival of Hope -- an alternative Christmas fair this Saturday and Sunday (November 19 and 20). You can browse, have a deli lunch, maybe some pumpkin pie, and feel good knowing that the fair is a non-profit event, and the money you spend will support…

I Just Saw A Real Life UFO

Tuesday night I walked out on my deck for some evening air just after 7pm.  From that deck, which faces south from Lower Wallingford, I spotted an odd yellow light in the sky.  Larger than a star, bigger than a planet. Then I saw other lights.  The lights, about eight of them, were in a rectangular shape.  They gave the appearance of "hovering" over West Seattle and the Sound, maybe Queen Anne Hill as well.  I called for my partner, Laura,…

Metro Meeting at QFC – Take Two

Well, I can honestly say that your feedback about Metro dissing Wallingford actually did have some impact----at least enough to warrant having another info table (this time, manned) at QFC. Here's what Linda Thielke from King County Department of Transportation wrote today: As many of you have reported, Metro was supposed to have had an info table at the Wallingford QFC last Sunday to talk with people about proposed bus changes for 2012. Unfortunately, we had a scheduling problem and couldn’t…

Sugar on Top Grand Opening

Back in September, we told you that the Sugar on Top salon opened in the former Alterations and Reweaving space (1601 N. 45th St.) Now, stylists Patience and Michelle are holding a grand opening this Friday, November 18, from 7pm-9pm so you can come by, have some wine, and talk to them about the affordably-priced services they offer. In an email to me, Michelle told me the kinds of services she and Patience specialize in. For Patience, it's curly hair, Brazilian…

KAOS Kamp Car Kackle

You're walking down NE 46th Street around Sunnyside and checking out the cars. There's a Honda Fit, there's a Subaru Outback, maybe a Ford Explorer and there's a...WTF? Is it a car? A truck? A monster? No, it's just Kackle, the product of Kaos Camp. This is going to take a little explaining. Burning Man is a massive arts / alternative lifestyle festival that goes on every year in the Nevada desert the week leading up through Labor Day weekend. About…

Metro disses Wallingford

You may recall that Metro was supposed to have an "information table" at the QFC on 45th from 4-6pm Sunday.  Reader Ju wrote to let us know that the event was, shall we say... unspectacular.  Here's what Ju had to say yesterday: Hi Wallyhood, According to http://metro.kingcounty.gov/have-a-say/calendar.html, KC Metro was going to have an "information table" at the Wallingford QFC today from 4-6pm with information about proposed changes to the bus system in 2012, including eliminating the route 26. By the…
