We recently received a reader tip from our buddy Holly (heh, "buddy Holly") over at Sock Monster. She's worried about the squirrels on Burke Ave N., between 44th & 45th. She refers to that block as "squirrel row." Holly's concern? Rat bait boxes in the squirrels' habitat on the east side of Wallingford Center, near the sidewalk. Here's what Holly had to say about the bait boxes: "They are right along the fence on Burke right by where all the squirrels…
From July 21 to August 8, Northwest International Student Exchange (NWISE) is hosting a summer camp in Wallingford for teenage students from Chengdu City, in the Szechuan Provence of China. They'll be using OmCulture as a base to their camp, but the organization is seeking Wallingford families to host the teachers and students coming…
Middle school students Cyan and Darius are hosting a lemonade stand called "Hopelink Lemonade" this Sunday, June 19, from 1-4pm at Gas Works Park. The money they raise from the lemonade stand will go to Hopelink -- a foundation for low income families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities. While they won't be selling the lemonade directly, they'll have a donation box at the stand, and will dispense lemonade to those who donate. No promises, but they may even have mini…
We just received word that Chocolati Cafe on 45th (1716 N. 45th St.) was burglarized last night. The shop's morning staff found that someone had broken in through the women's bathroom window, located in the back of the store. Mark from the cafe told me that the safe had been smashed open with a hammer and chisel and the burglar made off with $1,000 in cash. Thanks for the tip, Domenic.

The mobile will be closed for one hour during 1pm to 2pm. If you've never donated blood before, the process is relatively quick and simple. Here's some information from PSBC: Giving blood is a safe, easy process. After a donor registers, Blood Center staff asks about his or her health and…

How many community groups do you belong to? You know, like the PTSA for your children's school, your church or synagogue, or Wallyhood, for example. I'm guessing a few since we're quite an active bunch here in Wallingford. Now, add up how many different community groups your family members actively participate in, and then add up the groups your friends and neighbors belong to. I'll betcha dollars to donuts you'll come up with a number higher than 10. I ask because…
