Gimme Some Pancakes!

Yes!  The Wallingford Community Senior Center is going back to holding its popular Sunday Pancake Breakfast quarterly.  Okay, it's not as good as being able to stuff yourself with homemade pancakes and French toast for a good cause every month, but it's a start! The next one is February 27th from 9 AM to 12 PM in the basement of the Good Shepherd Center.  Adults only $5 and Kids $2.50.  Just follow your nose. Photo by oddharmonic.

B.F. Day School

Continuing our series on Wallingford attendance area Seattle Public Schools, here's a look at Seattle's oldest continually operating school in Seattle:  B.F. Day. Founded in 1892, B.F. Day School in Fremont was built on a block of 20 lots generously donated by landowner Benjamin Franklin Day who asked that educators build not only a school, but a good school.  We feature B.F. Day here because it is a linked school, which means that if you opt out of the language immersion…

Stoned Soup

We were chatting with our friend D. the other day, who mentioned he had recently attended a performance at Stone Soup Theatre's production of How I Learned To Drive, by Paula Vogel. We reproduce our best recollected transcription of his orally delivered review here: Oh hey, you know that little theater on Stone Way, little place tucked in up from that pit on 40th? Hey, it's a gem. We stopped in there, pretty baked one night last week, just on a…

Please RSVP For Wallyhood Meet-Up

We've got a brilliant idea for increasing attendance at tomorrow's Wallyhood reader meet-up: we're going to retitle it "Wallyhood Grammar Lesson", and we'll give all attendees five minutes in which they may critique our use of language and syntax. Anyone who hasn't used up their full five minutes may spend the balance of their allotted time berating us for being too soft on the homeless and/or a naive, bleeding heart liberal. Our only concern is that, based on frequency of such…

Taco Truck Upgrade

In a recent post on Not a Number's search for a new home, we suggested they might move into the derelict Winchell's donut shop. As you may remember, when the old Winchell's franchise owner closed up shop, the Rancho Bravo taco truck that had been parked in the lot took over the lease for the whole property (The Plot Thickens). Since then, the truck has expanded to a larger truck, the size of the Costco carport set up to provide rain…

New Irwin’s Underway

Construction is underway for a new Irwin's Neighborhood Bakery and Cafe at 301 NE 65th Street in Green Lake.  Irwin's is already home to two other locations: Wallingford (2123 N. 40th St.) and Eastlake (1201 B. Eastlake Ave. E.).  The new location will be on the corner of 65th and Latona, where PetDaddy was before someone crashed their truck into the store last year. Irwin's owner Linda Fecher gave us the scoop: It's official!  Irwin's is excited to be opening another…

Who R U? Leave Me Alone!

Last Thursday at 7:55am, I approached the intersection of Stone Way & 35th on foot.  I wanted to cross Stone Way.  But there was a guy standing there are the intersection, shaking uncontrollably and unsteady on his feet.  I hung back until the light changed, then passed him. After crossing the intersection, I turned left headed toward Solsticio.  I wasn't thinking about the man at the stop light anymore.  But as I turned to drop something in a trashcan a block…
