Corporate Graffiti

Monday, we noted that the police have arrested a man accused of tagging Wallingford and many other neighborhoods with a spraypainted "Zeb". We've always had a bit of short-fuse for tagging, a form of graffiti in which the practitioner spraypaints or marks his name over huge numbers of pieces of private property. The most infuriating aspect of tagging is that city law requires the property owner to bear the cost of the removal of the mark and will fine the owner…

A Streetside Wonderland

(Wallyhood welcomes guest blogger Marc Schwartz. Visiting his grandson Baby Z from the East Coast, he ran across a Wallingford treasure and jumped on the opportunity to join his son on these pages.) Can’t afford to fly to see the magnificent garden at the Shinto temple in Kyoto? Why not wander by the funky house at the corner of 43rd and Burke with gorgeous flowers and wondrous tchotskis in front? Six years ago, the house was unrented, unpainted, and inhabited by…

Night Out

Tonight, we hitched up our baby trailer to the bike, buckled in Baby Z and heading out on a tour of Seattle Night Out block parties tonight and found Wallingford as welcoming a neighborhood as you can imagine. We toured a total of 11, count them 11 block parties, and were offered food, drink and good conversation at each. The worst part was tearing ourselves away from each party to get to the next. We didn't take notes or anything, but…

Wallingford Art Walk

Last month, we found Wallingford Art Walk to be something of a disappointment. We were not alone. Not to say there weren't some fine artists on display, good music to be had and the requisite nibbles and wine, but what was disappointing was the number of businesses that had signed up, but failed to actually book an artist and participate. We hope this month will be better. We'll tell you what we know of, so, should you decide to venture out,…

Blue Angels Back in Town

"There will be closures to the I-90 bridge next week so the Blue Angels can terrorize Lake Washington,"  says lower Wallingford worker bee Stephen Parris.  I couldn't say it better myself, so I didn't. Road closures really shouldn't affect Wallingford much but if you're headed east, or if you're passing through town Thursday-Sunday, be sure to check out the traffic details here. If you're a fan of the Blue Angels, your best bets for catching glimpses of them from right here…

Lion Dance Tonight

Saw this posted by LatonaJack in the Wallyhood Forums, thought it was worth "promoting": If your kids have never seen a Lion Dance, most find it to be a pretty enjoyable experience. Perche No restaurant, just south of Kidd Valley & across the street from Bamboo Village, is celebrating their anniversary with a Lion dance around 6ish along with champagne and music from 6:30 to 9:30 Sunday evening. Seems an unusual choice of celebration for an Italian restaurant until you learn…
