Sweet “Cedar Rapids”

There's a type of movie we're pretty familiar with.  It's set in a small town and is full of local oddballs who do wacky things but have hearts of gold.  It's easy for these movies to get condescending and make fun of its characters.  What's refreshing about Cedar Rapids, the new comedy at The Guild, is that it follows the formula but with affection and respect. As you can guess from its name Cedar Rapids is set in the the down-to-earth,…

Puffin’

(Attendees at Wednesday night's Wallyhood meet-up had the opportunity to meet Grandpa Wallyhood, who is visiting from Back East. For the Love of Math!

You've heard this a million (10 to the power of 6) times, but it is frightening.  In the 2009 (41 X 49)  Program for International Student Assessment US 15-year-olds ranked 25th (4! + 1) among 34 (square root of 1156) countries in math falling behind Canada, New Zealand, Finland, and Asian countries such as China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong. To counter this sad trend, stop by The Math Salon at Mosaic Coffeehouse on February 28th from 4-6 PM:…

Yes!  The Wallingford Community Senior Center is going back to holding its popular Sunday Pancake Breakfast quarterly.  Okay, it's not as good as being able to stuff yourself with homemade pancakes and French toast for a good cause every month, but it's a start! The next one is February 27th from 9 AM to 12 PM in the basement of the Good Shepherd Center.  Adults only $5 and Kids $2.50.  Just follow your nose. Photo by oddharmonic.
