Wallingford Greenhouse Project Needs Volunteers

Calling all Wallingford green thumbs! The Greenhouse Project is looking to recruit some volunteers to help grow fresh and organic produce for local food banks.  Volunteers will be dedicating their time towards growing thousands of vegetable starts in a lower Wallingford greenhouse, which then will be distributed by Lettuce Link to P-Patches around the city.  All vegetables will then be donated to food banks. If you're interested in volunteering for the local greenhouse project there is an orientation and workshop on Saturday,…

Wallyhood Reader Meet-Up

We heard so many nice things from the people who came to our Wallyhood readers meet-up back in November that we've decided to do it again. To make sure we pay proper respect to all your North Wallingfordites, this next Wednesday, February 23rd from 7:00 - 9:00 pm, we'll be gathering at Bandolero (2253 N 56th St) up in Tangletown. As before, there's no agenda, no purpose, just a chance to come together with your neighbors and share some conversation. With…

Sustainable Wallingford – Climate Action Event

Sustainable Wallingford is holding a political letter writing party.  Which reminds me of the last time I went to a political letter writing party.  It was for Howard Dean, and I lived in South Carolina.  Yeah, there were like, 3 of us.  And my co-workers kept calling me a Communist. Anyway, if you enjoy the near-dead art of letter writing, or if you'd like to send a message to Olympia about the environment, you're in luck.  Sustainable Wallingford will be meeting…

Fallen fir on 46th

Brian London and Justin Ivy wrote to tell us that half of a large Douglas Fir fell earlier today at 46th and Eastern, due to the high winds.  The fallen tree is blocking 46th, so folks, be careful driving around there! Update from Brian at 4:51: Someone cut part of the tree away and SDOT came out and cordoned off the sidewalk but they left the rest, presumably because they need more equipment to safely remove the heavier, higher up portion.

Saturday Valentines At The Zoo

The Woodland Park Zoo can get kinda old if you're a member of it and have seen all the exhibits a couple times, and it can get even more stale for the animals themselves. Most animals figure out the routine and spend a lot of time napping, although the otters fortunately have acute ADHD. This is why you must visit the zoo for "enrichment activities". The most fun I've ever had at the zoo was at Pumpkin Bash- seeing an elephant…

The Voice

Tom W. just let us know that there are lines snaking out of SIR Studios on Interlake of folks looking to audition for The Voice, a new American Idol-style show from NBC. As we told you recently, NBC’s The Voice is planning on going head-to-head with FOX‘s American Idol. Word is The Voice will include several twists…
