Wallingford Fisticuffs: 1952

Paul Dorpat and John Sundsten sent us this classic shot taken in Wallingford, 1952. It appeared in the North Central Outlook along with the story below. BRAINS, NOT BRAWN, is supposed to be one of the essential differences between man and animal. The ability to reason has enabled man to rise above other earthly creatures.  But he has never been entirely tamed, and reason failing, resorts to brawn in an attempt to solve his problems. Little boys, like grown men, and…

Metro is on SNOW ROUTES Monday am

Metro announced Sunday night that all Metro buses will be on Snow Routes for the Monday morning commute.  Even if the streets are dry. And some snow routes have  been changed since last year.  I took a look at some Wallingford routes and found the following: #26 southbound will turn right on 45th, then left on Stone Way, back to regular route at Stone Way & 35th.  So it looks like anyone commuting from Lower Wallingford to downtown on the #26…

Memorial at Gas Works

Just saw this photo posted to Twitter by Natalie Greco of a memorial at Gas Works, where people were putting candles in balloons and setting them afloat. The Animals Among Us

There's been some chatter in the Forums this week about some of our furry friends, and one fowl (who lived) among us. Wallingford Home Tour Saved

Back in September, we reported that the Wallingford Home Tour, slated for October, had been canceled, due in part by lack of homeowners' participation. Many of our readers, however, voiced their disappointment and pledged support by offering their homes for the tour, and within a week, organizers of the event vowed to meet again to resurrect the event in January, 2011. Now we have confirmation from the latest WEaving Wallingford's Weekend E-News that the Wallingford Home Tour is a "go"!  The…

Woodlawn Santa News for Grown-Ups

Wallyhood recently received sad news from our friend Sharon Ehrig, who creates a winter wonderland in her yard (3916 Woodlawn Ave) every year so Santa can sit on her porch and greet the children, young and old. Unfortunately, Sharon won't be able to decorate or to host Santa this year.  Here's what she asked Santa to tell us: "I'm sorry to say that Santa will not be rocking on Sharon's porch this year.  Sharon can not take time to do the…
