So what's the holiday haps around the neighborhood? We gotta figure that a bunch of bars and restaurants will be having New Year's Eve specials, and probably a few churches are doing something interesting for Christmas. We'd be happy to compile and publish a list, but give us a hand here and let us know what's going on.

Kuma Coffee

(Wallyhood reader Ryan G. sent in this fine review of little known but much loved coffee house, Kuma Coffee) We live in Seattle where it’s ok to be a coffee snob.  And that is a good thing.  We have some of the greatest independent coffee shops in the country in our own back yard… Vivace, Victrola, Stumptown, Lladro, Fuel… you get the idea.  We also have one in our neighborhood that you may never have heard of- Kuma, the storefront coffee…

Pet-sitting co-op?

  • Post author:

If you're a parent, you're undoubtedly familiar with the idea of a baby-sitting co-op, where parents babysit for one another in exchange for being babysat for. Would the same thing work for pets? Santa Comes to Woodlawn Ave.

For about fifteen years now, Sharon and Fred Ehrig @ 3916 Woodlawn have put together one of the most spectacular yard displays of Christmas lights in Wallingford.  With 15,000 lights, reindeer (with personlized saddles), snowmen, candy canes, a rubber ducky gate, teddy bears and elves -- you just gotta see this house. And the best part -- Santa.  Santa visits the porch every night from 5-9pm through December 23rd.  He hopes to stay until 11pm on the 23rd so everyone who…

The Green Chair Project, a group of artists focusing on eco-friendly materials is seeking like-minded folks to join the venture. They've got a space down on 1001 NE Boat Street that includes 5 artist studios (built with salvaged materials, natch) plus a gift shop where both their in-house and other local artists sell their wares (made from recylced, salvaged and sustainable materials), plus a community workspace for educational workshops and the like. They've got studio space available, so if you've got…

Solsticio

The past week or so, Wallyhood readers have been treated to posts about Gypsy Cafe and (sort of) Essential Baking.  So, in the spirit of covering all the coffee shops in a single 2 block radius, we'd like to tell you about Solsticio at 34th & Stone Way.  They're not strictly Wallingford -- but they're only a few feet on the wrong side of the boundary, so we'll think of them as Fremont-on-the-cusp-of-Wallingford. Solsticio opened October 1st in the old Speedy Reedy…
