New Art on the Burke

The Burke Gilman has a new art piece, pictured below, right above Dunn Lumber at NE Pacific and Latona. The motion of the birds taking flight works beautifully as you pass on a bike, each panel revealing the spreading cluster. No info yet on who the artist is. We'll make some calls and tell you what we learn, but if you know what's up, please share in the comments.

Art Walk Report

Perhaps it was the heat, but Wallingford Art Walk was surprisingly subdued tonight. Certainly, there were people out and many of the participating businesses had remarkable art to greet them, but there was definitely the sense that, if you didn't know something was going on, you could walk down 45th Street and remain unaware. This is a disappointment and a lost opportunity. We suspect there were several contributing factors. First, not all businesses that are on the map actually participate. Certainly,…

Wallingford Wednesday – 90°

Lots going on in Wallingford this Wednesday, so make yourself comfortable: First off, the weather report says it's supposed to get up to 90° F. That's nine-zero frickin' degrees! In Seattle! So everything else that we list below is just going to be double-awesome. Wednesday, as it is all summer, is Wallingford Farmer's Market at Wallingford Center, 3 - 7 pm. We're not going to list what all is ripe and in season this week because everything is ripe and in…

Octopus Pie

Octopus Pie. Oh, we haven't liked a title of one of our posts this much since Inseminating the Elephant. What gives us the right, nay, the honor of entitling a post, "Octopus Pie"? None of other than the visit to Comics Dungeon (250 N. 45th St) of the creator of the Octopus Pie comic strip, Meredith Gran. She'll be kicking off her tour and celebrating the release of the first Octopus Pie collection, "Octopus Pie: THere are No Stars in Brooklyn"…

Reminder: it's Wallingford Wednesday, that once monthly grand alignment of the Wallingford Farmer's Market (3 - 7 pm, Wallingford Center parking lot, 4400 Wallingford Avenue N) and Wallingford Art Walk (6 - 9 pm, all over Wallingford). Think of it like an eclipse, except instead of the moon obscuring the sun, it's just two things happening in Wallingford. Still, fresh local food and fresh local art, what's not to love. Grab yourself some veggies, bread and cheese and make a sandwich,…

Warm your buns on this

It may not sound like much, but it's been a long time coming and it's actually quite beautiful: the John Stanford School has a new bench. Last year's fifth grade class donated a bench as their "thank you" gift to the school, but for reasons that only bureaucrats can fathom, it took until this year to get all the permissions and what-not to actually install it. This past Memorial Day weekend, there were several fathers out with their sons shoveling, pouring,…

Wednesday is the first Wednesday of the month, meaning it's time again for Wallingford Art Walk, 6 - 9 pm. Seattle Mosaic Arts will be holding their first "Members Show" at their studio (1325 46th Ave N), featuring work created at the studio during their first year. The show is up for month of June, so if you can't make it to the opening, feel stop in and enjoy the art with a cup of coffee. We're not sure what else…
