Two notes from the blotter. Jeff Garfield at Bedrooms and More dropped us a frustrated note about graffiti that had appeared on his vans and building last Saturday, Feb 25th: Our brand new truck parked in the locked and gated lot by our store was painted. The parking garage under Wine World was also hit along with others places. We need the community's help in apprehending the person(s) responsible for tagging our truck which was parked at the the vacant lot…
Last Thursday at 7:55am, I approached the intersection of Stone Way & 35th on foot. I wanted to cross Stone Way. But there was a guy standing there are the intersection, shaking uncontrollably and unsteady on his feet. I hung back until the light changed, then passed him. After crossing the intersection, I turned left headed toward Solsticio. I wasn't thinking about the man at the stop light anymore. But as I turned to drop something in a trashcan a block…
In a post oddly titled "Shots fired, property damage in University District", the SPD Blotter reports gunfire near 40th NE and Latona last night: On February 17th, at approximately 1:30 AM, North Precinct officers responded to a call of numerous gunshots in the 200 Block of NE 40th Street. Officers arrived and located six shell casings in the street. During an area check, it appears that a car parked in a driveway of a house in that block had minor damage…
We're hearing reports that the police have blocked off 46th Street to the west of QFC in Wallingford. We understand that they are negotiating with a mentally ill person who has barricaded him/herself in their house and may be suicidal. This is unrelated to the huge police sting that has been going on on Stone Way and 40th to ticket drivers who don't yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk or who speed. That's what we know now. Update 3:19 pm: the…
A new naturopathic clinic, Tilia Natural Health (105 NE 56th St.), recently moved to Tangletown; and while we'd like to give the clinic a warm-hearted Wallingford welcome to the neighborhood, we also need to report a robbery that occurred in their offices sometime during the wee hours of Wednesday morning. People can navigate to this website if they need the best health related advice. Jamine Blesoff, owner of the clinic and Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, wrote to tell us that her…
Last night, just past 10 pm, Jon Liechty tweeted "Cops have lower @wallyhood shut down with dogs out cornering a criminal" followed by the picture to the right of the action. He says they were looking for a 5'8" white mail in a blue sweatshirt, near Wallingford Ave and 34th / 35th. Eileen confirmed the incident and, in a separate tip, Fiona tells us they had Meridian shut down too. That's what we know. We like the way the community becomes…
Last week, we reported that many businesses along 45th Street had been tagged with graffiti, and the comments that we received from our neighbors about coming together to clean up the mess inspired us to want to help out, too. So, we did a little digging and located Daniel Sims, the Seattle Public Utilities contact in charge of Graffiti Education and Outreach. Here's what we learned from Daniel: If you are interested in removing graffiti from private property, we offer paint, supplies, and…
