Car break-in over the weekend

Wallyhood reader Jack dropped us a quick note about a car break-in that happened on Sunday night: The window of our car was busted out late last night, and an emergency kit was stolen. The car was parked on Latona Ave. NE just south of the intersection with 44th. Several other cars were nearby but left alone. Our car was therefore targeted, probably because the emergency kit (stored in a very cheap-looking backpack) was visible in the back seat. The thieves…

Stolen Car Alert

Sara writes: Greetings!  I'm a Green Lake/Wallingford resident living a block west of McDonald Elementary on 1st Ave. NE.  I'm writing to let folks know that my car went missing sometime between Thursday, Aug. 23 - Sunday, Aug. 26.  I was backpacking so I don't know when it was stolen. I wanted to let Wallyhood know because a) the thief may target other cars in the area and, b) if someone sees a white 1992 Honda Accord wagon (plates: ACR3459), please…

Missing your Hyundai owner’s manual?

Ellie writes: We have found a leather bound Hyundai Owner's Manual and materials for the 2012 Santa Fe after my mother's car was broken into and the thief left them in our car. There is no registration or other info, just booklets about the car and a brand new leather bound case for all of it. Luckily, nothing was stolen in our car but I wanted to get these materials back to their owner who has also likely been through a…

Burglary on Whitman

An apartment resident on Whitman writes about a very creepy burglary that happened last week: ****************************************** Around 5:30pm on Monday I startled a young man in our basement when I went down to do laundry. He was crouched down by one of the water heaters and claimed he was a friend of one of the tenants in another apartment in our building and that he was checking on a malfunctioning water heater. He introduced himself, was very apologetic for having freaked…

Retriever statue stolen

Sharon wrote to tell us that someone swiped something unique and sentimental from her porch on Thursday morning: Sometime during the morning of April 19th, a statue of a retriever-type dog was taken from the front porch of my residence in Wallingford.  The statue was about 14 inches tall, off white, fabricated from a clay like material, and worth probably about $100.  It was received as a gift.  The dog originally held a stick in it's mouth with a welcome sign suspended…
