Lights Out

At about 8:15 PM, we heard a huge boom followed by several flashes (isn't it supposed to be the other way around?) here in east Wallingford near the John Stanford School, at which point the lights went out. Latona Ave between 42nd and 45th has been blocked off by the fire department. The fireman there says a main power line is down at 43rd and Latona, and they're waiting for City Light to come fix it. From the map on City…

Several weeks ago, some of Wallyhood’s fearless editors and a couple dozen faithful readers came out to Murphy’s Pub for our second annual meet and greet. We would like to thank Murphy’s for hosting and accommodating our large, mingling group! A huge thank-you also to those loyal Wallyhood readers who made it out on such a beautiful, sunny summer evening! There is a lot of history in our humble little neighborhood, and it was such a pleasure to meet some of…

HALA + Wallingford on KUOW

  • Post author:

If KUOW isn’t part of your morning diet, you may be unfamiliar with a series called Region of Boom which has been investigating issues related to our city’s explosive growth. This month, Region of Boom will air a series of pieces exploring the Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda (HALA) about which so much has been written here on Wallyhood. (So much, in fact, that the site has apparently auto-organized an archive just for HALA stories.) This simple fact would not, ordinarily,…

Good morning, Wallingford! As of this morning, central Wallingford once again has a bakery. Damsel & Hopper (4405 Wallingford Ave N, next to Julia's, where Tigerly Ox once served) has their grand opening today, Friday Sept 8th from 7:30 am to 4:00 PM and then again tomorrow from  8:00 AM  to 1:00 PM. This fills a hole left by the slow, sad decline and fall of La Boulangerie (and also fills a hole in my belly.) I don't know a ton about…
