Wallingford Wednesday – 90°

Lots going on in Wallingford this Wednesday, so make yourself comfortable: First off, the weather report says it's supposed to get up to 90° F. That's nine-zero frickin' degrees! In Seattle! So everything else that we list below is just going to be double-awesome. Wednesday, as it is all summer, is Wallingford Farmer's Market at Wallingford Center, 3 - 7 pm. We're not going to list what all is ripe and in season this week because everything is ripe and in…

July 4: The View From Up Here

Traffic along Wallingford Avenue, above 40th Street, began to build by 11:00 a.m.   As I mowed my lawn, I marveled over the families that hauled their blankets, coolers, chairs, strollers, and kids 8 blocks down the hill.  By 3:00 p.m. the rain pretty much put the kibosh on my yard work, and the steady stream of people tapered down to a trickle.  But around 6:00 p.m., the thickening crowd resumed their pilgrimage to Lake Union. During a dinner party at my…

Wallingford Block Parties

One of the drums we beat incessantly here at Wallyhood is "meet your neighbors" (see Go Out Front for our most recent screed). When neighbors know each other, it makes for a healthier, safer, happier place for all. That simple. So we thought it timely to remind you that Seattle Night Out, the annual city-wide designated evening for block parties, is Tuesday, August 3rd this year. The city has more information on their web site on what all is involved, but…

Mural Redesign

The 46th Street Mural Project (see And the muralist is... for background) had to go an emergency redesign to accomodate the overhead live trolley lines through the Aurora underpass, but rest easy, the new look has been approved by the city and the project is back underway. Here's a look at it: “We like the way the redesign turned out and actually think that the irregularity of the top edge has made the overall design more dynamic,” Patricia Hopper, Project Manager…

Kick It

Just in time for the World Cup semifinals, Tim writes: Parents in those neighborhoods might want to know that registration is open for the Woodland Soccer Club. WSC is a nonprofit recreational soccer club open to kids between the ages of 5 and 18 who live within the club's boundaries (generally the Wallingford and Green Lake neighborhoods, though check our web site for specific boundaries). Registration and other pertinent information can be found at the club's web site. If we're reading…

Soggy Afternoon

As of this writing, the clouds have cleared, the street parking is filled and it appears the fireworks display is on. A big thanks to Nature for clearing the skies after this afternoon's bit of sogginess. We're home, watching the crowds amble down the street towards Gas Works at the moment, but earlier this afternoon, we paid a visit to the park to see join in the festivities. We spotted the showers coming in from across Lake Union and got confirmation…

Our friends up the street by NE 44th St and 4th Ave NE (just a block off I-5) reported a disturbing burglarly the other day. They were getting ready to leave in the morning and had put a bag into their car and returned into the house to get the kids. As they were gathering their things, they looked out the window as two men on motorcycles pulled up. One hopped off his bike, smashed their car window with a tire…
