Seattle Public Schools Upcoming Levies Election

On February 9, residents within the Seattle Schools district will have a chance to vote for two new levies, using a special election mail-in ballot.  These levies replace two that expire this year and cover basic costs of education--from employee salaries to school building safety and maintenance--and will result in tax rates at current levels . Field Recording Workshop for Youth 8-13

Wallingford’s Hollow Earth Radio and The Fremont Abbey Arts Center are teaming up to present a free field recording workshop for kids Saturday, January 23rd from 11am - 4pm. Youth, ages 8-13, will spend the day learning how to capture the sounds that are all around us.  They'll be able to try different microphones and recording devices, and explore the sounds of Fremont. Lower Wallingford Retail Burglaries

Todd Olsen, co-owner of Solsticio cafe at Stone Way & 35th in lower Wallingford, is serving up some bitter news this weekend.  Solsticio & another nearby retail business were broken into & burglarized early Friday morning. One of Solsticio's floor-to-ceiling windows was smashed out & a robber entered the building, rifling through the till before absconding with the shop's digital music player.  Solsticio doesn't keep cash in the building overnight, so the music device & the window were the only real losses, but that's gotta suck if…
