Chickadees Preschool Open House…Come One…Come All

As a mother, I know that there is a stress that comes naturally with finding that perfect preschool.  Parents start planning what school their child is going to attend before they are even born, and I have heard the rumors of parents enrolling their children in preschool three years before they are ready to attend.  Well, I can honestly say that I don't have that much motivation; but if you are looking for that one school that is different from the…

Weekend Roundup

Okay y'all.  Hang on, hang on... Don't hibernate completely yet! I know you're tempted.  I've heard the hush that falls over the neighborhood as soon as rush hour ends in the evenings.  But don't give in!  There's still stuff to do before you have to carry your raincoat everywhere you go.  Here's a sampling for the weekend: Friday 10/8 8 PM - LP/CD release event, FLIGHTPATTERNS by Open Graves (Paul Kikuchi and Jesse Olsen) along with guests Stuart Dempster and Chris DeLaurenti. …

Mauritius at Seattle Public Theater

Apparently, stamp collecting is risky.  Risky enough to get you punched in the face.  Risky enough to bring up unresolved family issues.  Even risky enough to get you covered in Fritos.  What the heck am I talking about?  Mauritius:  a suspenseful comedy thriller by NYPD Blue writer and Peabody Award winner, Theresa Rebeck.  And it happens to be the first offering of the Seattle Public Theater's 2010-2011 season. Mauritius tells the story of two half sisters who must divide their deceased…

Payday Loans Begone!

Hey, remember back in January 2009 when we said we thought Wallingford (and the world) would be better off without the predatory lending monster Payday Loans? Our prayers have been answered and the neighborhood is one storefront cleaner. We just saw this tweet from GrrlGotGame (aka Jacqui Kramer) on Twitter: Yay! The Wallingford Payday Loans is gone. I hope they lease the space to someone classier. High bar, I know. Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Archie McPhee’s out for blood

This is my favorite time of year to visit Archie McPhee.  I mean, where else can you go to stock up on Monster Bandages or Glow Zombie Devil Duckies? What's also cool is that this is the time of year when Archie McPhee wants your blood.  On Friday, October 29, the Puget Sound Blood Mobile will be at the store for the 17th Annual Blood Drive from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.  Each donor receives a "spooky" gift; plus those dressed…

Does Your Dog Need Training…Or Perhaps You Do?

On a typical evening I’m found dealing with the constant hustle and bustle of the week, hurrying to get dinner served, and my son off to bed, while mentally preparing myself for the couple of hours I get to absorb on my own.  However, last Monday night I was allowed into what appeared to be a secret society of dogs and their owners, right here in Wallingford at 4015 Stone Way North. Susan Oshie, the owner of Paws 4 Training was…

Can Your Halloween Pin Win?

We were trolling through the Wallingford Center in search of mini cupcakes (they are hard to get hold of) when we happened upon this flier about a Halloween Pin Design Contest. Now, my daughter has a weird knack of winning contests.  She's won quite a few already as if sheer determination to win is enough.  Her eyes lit up and I could see her planning what to draw . . . . It's only fair, though, to have decent competition or…
